I love putting, and I love teaching people to putt. As the old saying goes, 'A man who can putt is a match for anyone.' If you are a good putter, and you think you are a good putter, then it takes a lot of pressure off the rest of your game. On the days you are hitting the ball well, you can take advantage to shoot a really low score, and on the days you aren't hitting the ball well you can save your score on the greens.
It is really rewarding to help someone who has been really struggling to get the ball in the hole, and in a pretty short time have them looking forward to getting on to the green, rather than dreading it as they had been in the past.
Putting
I coach putting in the same way as I coach the rest of the game. I keep it as simple as possible, and I try to let the body work naturally, rather than fighting against it. As with the rest of the game there are a few basic fundamentals that are the foundations of a good stroke, and these fundamentals are what I spend most of the time helping people with.
