Sam Profile

Hi. So, How's Your Golf?

I'm guessing you're here because your Search Engine of choice was kind enough to suggest me, or else some excellent person pointed you in my direction.  Maybe they had a golf lesson and are feeling guilty about winning all the time?

Anyway, Welcome, Glad to meet you.  Hopefully there's a reason you're here other than just idle curiosity.  You're here because you want to fix your grip, stop slicing, or hit longer drives, improve your short game, hit better bunker shots and hole more short putts.

So you just dropped by, on the off chance, to see if I might have It.  By 'It' I mean the secret.  The thing you have been looking for.  The key piece of understanding which will see you transformed from Average Joe (or Joanne) the 24 handicapper to The Golfer You Want To Be.

If this is a Proper Emergency, like you have a big game at the weekend and are struggling to keep your ball in the same postcode, pick up the phone and give me a call on 07976 401 545.  Often it is something simple we can fix in one lesson on the Explanar.

My Golf Coaching Philosophy

The most important thing I do is help people enjoy their golf more.  So few golfers I play with seem to get much pleasure from a round of golf.  They may start with high expectations, but more often it becomes an ordeal to be overcome, with enjoyment and satisfaction entirely dependent on the score or result.  This approach leads to pressure, getting in your own way and frustratingly bad golf.  Hopefully I can help you understand how and why this happens, and help you get as much enjoyment and pleasure from the game as possible.

The more I learn about the game of golf the more I become convinced of the importance of the basics, the fundamentals.  If you get your hands on the club correctly, stand to the ball with good balance and posture, and make a good turn back and through, you will play some very nice golf.  Golf is a simple game, but not an easy one.  The golf swing itself is a simple movement, which unfortunately some people make more complicated than it needs to be.

Rotary Swing Tour Certification

I’m excited and proud to have qualified as an RST Certified Instructor.  I have been a member of the RotarySwing.com site for over 4 years and have yet to find anything that comes close as a resource to help improve your golf.  I have seen a massive improvement in my own game since implementing Chuck’s ideas.   As many of you know I play competitively almost every week in Pro Ams and mini tour events, and am playing the best, most enjoyable golf of my life at the moment.  I know RST works because I use it myself.

As a coach I am a firm believer in teaching the individual, rather than a method or system.  What I love about RST is that it gives me as a coach, a set of biomechanical laws to work from, just as we have a set of ballistic laws to understand ball flight, and mechanical laws to understand the way the golf club works.  Every student is unique, but our joints and muscles are all designed to work the same way.  The challenge as a coach is to find the best way to help the individual feel the movement of their  golf swing,  to learn it, understand it and then to own it.

I have had so much fun helping my students learn the Rotary Swing and then RST principles over the past few years and seeing the improvement and the increased enjoyment they are getting from our great game.  Many of them are playing the best golf of their lives right now, and I am really excited about the plans Chuck has for the site in the coming months.   I am looking forward to learning and understanding even more about the golf swing and how we learn and acquire new skills and to helping people play even better.  Please have a look at RotarySwing.com if you would like more information, or get in touch by phone or email.

The Biomechanics of the Golf Swing

These video's are from a seminar by Alison Theitje, of Motion Memory for Golf.  They are the basis around which the Rotary Swing Tour programme is built.  They give a fantastic introduction to the biomechanics of the golf swing, and explain why the golf swing has been such a difficult movement to learn and teach in the past.  (If you are short of time, the first 4 and the last one are the most relevant.)

Part 1. Background.
